Once again it’s time to do what Helen Georgia does best- celebrate! Oktoberfest ushers in the fall leaf season, and this year there is so much to see and do. Here’s the scoop:
Oktoberfest runs all month, until October 27th. It will be held at the Helen Festhalle, from 6-10 pm Monday – Thursday, 6PM -midnight Fridays, 1 PM to Midnight Saturdays, and 1 PM to 7PM Sundays. Cover charge is $8.00-$10.00 per person, but Sunday is free admission! Food and drink available for purchase. This is a must-do in Helen, authentic German music and your opportunity to do the Chicken Dance!
Prefer to get close to nature? Every Saturday in October, Unicoi State Park Lodge is hosting a guided hike from the lodge down to Helen. This is an awesome trail and you’ll learn about the local flora and fauna (that’s plants and animals, lol). The hike is 3 miles and there is a shuttle for hikers who only want to hike one way. Registration is required. Call for details- 800-573-9659.
We are very excited to tell you about the new entertainment venue in Helen, The Helen Theatre. On weekends in October, you can see a Travis Tritt Tribute Band, a Tribute to Frank Sinatra, and of course, our very own Elvis Tribute show. Check out the website or call 706-969-5671 for info and showtimes.
Friday October 11 is the start of the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival in Hiawasee, Georgia, which runs through October 20th. Just a short 20 minute drive up the mountain from Helen, this annual fair features arts, crafts, local food, an exhibit hall, and entertainment. Fun for the whole family!
Another new festival in downtown Helen is the Culture of India Festival. Featuring the crafts, music and foods of India. Stop by Riverside Park on Saturday October 12th and check it out!
Corn mazes, hayrides, petting zoos, outdoor movies….are just some of the other fun fall activities at this time of year. Check this blog for further details (use the search bar, enter a keyword, and the blog post about it will come up). Or call our friendly reps at Blue Ridge Cabin Rentals for assistance.
All of the above is in the picturesque setting of the North Georgia Mountains in autumn. The leaves should be great this year, and you can take a drive or enjoy them from the deck of a fully equipped cabin. Cook up a pot of chili, heat up some cider (or grab a beer), sit by the firepit or fireplace, and enjoy the crisp fall air. Give us a call at 706-878-1773 or see our website and we’ll help you set it up.
