Helen, Georgia and the North Georgia Mountains are the perfect backdrop for a weekend getaway or a vacation any time of the year. The Month of March ushers in Spring, and is a great time to visit and stay in a cabin or condo.
This year, 2013, we have some traditional events going on. March is Spring Break for a lot of folks, so here’s the scoop on special events so you can plan your North Georgia vacation or getaway!
Saturday, March 16, Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland (home of the Cabbage Patch Kids) is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration with prize drawings, treats, and costumed characters. Fun for kids of all ages! Click the link here or call 706-865-2171 for more information on this event.
Also on March 16th, from 2p.m. to 5 p.m., you can also enjoy music and complimentary wine tasting at Sautee-Nacoochee Vineyards, with the return of their Swinging in the Vines music concert series. Relax on the deck, sip your favorite wine, and enjoy the views of Mt. Yonah and the Sautee Valley.
Speaking of wine tasting, the following weekend, March 22-24, is the Spring Wine Hwy Weekend, sponsored by the Georgia Wine Growers Association. Enjoy tastings, food and entertainment at various wineries in the region. This event was covered in our last post on the Georgia Wine Highway. It’s a great way to sample wines from established and up-and-coming wineries in the North Georgia Mountains.
On Saturday, March 23rd, Babyland General Hospital is at it again for their Easter Eggstravaganza. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., families can enjoy an Easter Egg hunt, arts & crafts, rides, games, and prize drawings. This event is also sponsored by the White County Chamber of Commerce, and will feature an Old Fashioned Easter Parade in downtown Cleveland. There’s also a Breakfast with the Easter Bunny ($12 per person, reservations required). Find out if he really does eat more than carrots, and let us all know!
Okay, guys, we haven’t forgotten you! The 24th Annual Helen Trout Tournament begins at 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 30. Registration is required (begins on Friday, the 29th at 4 p.m.), as well as a valid Georgia Fishing License and Trout Stamp. Anglers of all ages are welcome to try their skill (and luck) to catch Tagged Trout, worth over $2000.00 in available prizes! (The grand prize is a Tagged Trout worth $500.00). Get up close and personal with the beautiful Chattahoochee River for this popular event!
Also on Saturday, March 30th, Unicoi State Park is hosting an Easter Fun event, where kids can make their own Easter Basket, hunt for eggs, and meet the Easter Bunny. (He’s going to be busy, isn’t he?!) For more information, please call the park at 800-573-9659.
By mid to late March, the weather is usually warmer and the buds are beginning to decorate the trees. Flowers start to make their appearance, and Spring is underway. Outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, zip-lining and horseback riding are popular at this time of year. Scroll through our blog posts for more information on these and other activities. We’d love to help you plan your visit, so give us a call or check out our website! 706-878-1773.
