As summer winds down, people get busy with thoughts of going back to school, and getting back “on track” in general. But the temptation is strong to get in those last few days of summer fun, and Helen, Georgia is the place to go for great scenery and plenty of activities!
The most popular summertime activities- boating, tubing on the river or the waterpark, fishing, hiking, mountain biking- are still enjoyed by many at least until Labor Day Weekend. But there are other events this August in Helen that you may want to consider.
Many folks enjoy riding their motorcycles up to Helen, and our friends at Chattahoochee Biker Gear host the Destination Helen Motorcycle Rally each year. This year it is August 16th through the 19th, and features guided scenic rides, a poker run, bike show, live music, and Vendor Villages at the Helen City Park. There will also be contests and games, so if you own a bike or just like to look them over, join the festivities and check out this fantastic event! Summer evenings in the North Georgia Mountains are made for live music! On Saturday, August 11, Habersham Winery hosts “Second Saturday” on their lawn, featuring live music, arts and crafts booths, and of course, fine wine and great food. Saturday August 18th you have two options- Sautee Nacoochee Vineyards (706-878-2056) hosts their “Swinging in the Vines” music series outdoor concert, and The River Mist Lodge also has live music on the banks of the Chattahoochee River.
